About Scissors

Almost 50 years ago in 1963 the first Scissors salon, then trading under the name Janette’s, opened in Westbourne, Dorset. This was the beginning of what is now one of the largest and most successful salon groups in the Dorset/Hampshire area.

From those early years in Westbourne, Scissors went on to open salons in Ferndown, Bournemouth town centre, New Milton, Poole, and Winton and has recently continued to expand following a change of ownership of the company in 2008, with new salons opening in the Furlong Shopping Centre, Ringwood in August 2010 and most recently in the Saxon Square Shopping Centre, Christchurch in November 2011.

Scissors on-going commitment to providing clients with the very highest standards of hairdressing and customer service has earned the group a considerable and enviable local reputation which has led to the Scissors brand becoming synonymous with the best in hairdressing, style and service.

Client’s can also be assured that this commitment to quality hairdressing and great customer service is under-pinned by a similar commitment to providing value for money with the highly-popular client ‘Loyalty Card’ as well as regular promotions such as the annual ‘Book Ahead’ promotion providing great opportunities for additional savings and added-value incentives.

Staff training plays a key part in the continuing success of Scissors and with the support of their sister company, Francesco Group, a nationally accredited training provider; Scissors deliver their own hairdressing NVQ Level 2 and 3 Apprenticeship training to young hairdressers in the company. As a further part of the Scissors expansion programme a Scissors Training Academy was launched in January 2012. Based at their Winton H.O. and salon, apprentices from other local salons can now benefit from Scissors training at no cost to either the salon or the trainee. Scissors are justifiably proud to have been recognised for the quality of their training by being nominated as a finalist in the Training category of the 2012 Dorset Business Awards.

The Scissors philosophy inspires, develops and motivates every member of the salon team to apply their creative abilities with the utmost confidence and originality.  In such a strong people business this commitment to staff development is essential and there is a clear career path available to everybody within the company that also provides the opportunity to develop managerial and leadership skills that can lead to salon management and ultimately the chance to run your own successful Scissors salon franchise.
